SEE OUR INTERVIEWS with the main cast of this film, 'Homebound; which had its world premiere here in Cannes on Wednesday (May 21).
This film by writer-director Neeraj Ghaywan was screened in the Un Certain Regard section - which is just below the Competition films here.
Ishaan Khatter has the most screen time and plays Shoaib whose best friend is Chandan (Vishal Jethwa) and who falls for Sudha (Janhvi Kapoor). The three all live in humble circumstances and are striving to make the best of themselves.
Shoaib and Chandan both want to join the police force and the movie starts with them completing their exams and nervously awaiting the results, while Sudha has set her sights on acquiring a degree and studying further to improve her career prospects. All are looking to make it above the circumstances of their parents.
Writer-director Neeraj Ghaywan's film is intense, moving and quietly reflective about life, ambition, advancement and is about friendship, values and beliefs.
