High Court Warrants Arrest of IAS Officer Arvind Agrawal

The troubles of Odisha Higher Education Secretary and IAS officer Arvind Agrawal have increased after he failed to comply with the directions of the High Court. In a contempt of court case, the High Court has issued an arrest warrant against him and directed the police to produce him before the court on the 22nd. The court, however, clarified that the arrest can be avoided if its directions are followed before the given date.

The case is linked to retired reader Tapan Patnaik of Kujang College, who retired just one day before his annual increment was due. Like many others in similar situations, Patnaik had approached the High Court seeking the benefit. The matter later reached the Supreme Court, which ruled that all retired lecturers in such cases were entitled to receive the increment.

Despite the Supreme Court’s order, the increment was not granted. Patnaik again moved the High Court, which directed the authorities to release the increment arrears. As the order was not implemented, a contempt petition was filed against Higher Education Secretary Dr Arvind Agrawal.

The case has now drawn attention to compliance with court orders and accountability within the education administration.
