Someone once called this book 'Kafka for Kids,' and I’ve never heard a more apt description.

Cicada is a story about an insect working a tiring office job and feeling underappreciated by the people around him. it’s a very simple 32-page picture book about the unspoken horrors of corporate white-collar work life.

“I wanted to create a picture book that, as usual, was not particularly for children (while still accessible to them). I was thinking about friends and family who have worked in places where they felt underappreciated, including my father who had mixed experiences in his professional life, and has since happily retired in his garden, growing everything from olives to custard apples.” - Shaun Tan
