American Idiot - Green Day
Warning: political song = political description. you've been warned
Here's the one I'm sure you all have been waiting for, the title track of the album. It was extremely relevant at the time of release, and it's arguably more relevant nowadays. At the rate we're going, it will likely continue to remain relevant for quite a while. It was a good decision to not outright namedrop Bush on this track, otherwise it would likely be seen as a relic of the past. Now that our options for president are narrowed down to Trump and Biden, we've got really dark days ahead, no matter who wins. I feel so fucking hopeless right now about the future of this country given the two choices we now have. We're living through a historic worldwide pandemic right now, and the only person who had a vision for the future was outright rejected by democratic voters, largely because they were spoon-fed the narrative that Bernie was a scary un-electable socialist who wants to destroy America, but dementia Joe was the most electable based solely on his vice presidency under Obama. One Nation controlled by the media.
2020 will be a repeat of 2016. It's the same playbook: Establishment figure with decades of political experience, uninspiring message that boils down to "I'm not Trump", and pre-existing scandals that will be exploited to the max by Trump (Ex. Hillary's emails, Biden's son). Biden is gonna get fucking crushed by Trump in November. Somehow, the Democrats were able to make the incumbent president look like the anti-establishment outsider compared to their candidate. They learned nothing in the past 4 years. I certainly won't be voting for Trump, but I'm still undecided if I'll vote for Biden. What reason has he given to Bernie supporters to vote for him other than telling us to fall in line or else it will be all our fault if Trump is president again? Dropping the Medicare age requirement to 60 instead of 65? That's an insult more than anything. You gotta give people something to vote for, not just someone to vote against. I don't want a return to the Obama years like is being promised, I want to move forward. Progress. Actual change and reform, not some bullshit liberal incrementalism.
No one asked, but that's my take on modern day American politics. But hey, I'm just some dude who plays plastic toy guitars and hits colorful circles and squares for youtube, what do I know?
