About the program: This workshop explores how graphic organizers can be used to support students’ reading comprehension and conceptual understanding in the classroom. Graphic organizers help learners visually organize information, identify key ideas, and understand relationships within a text. The session will introduce different types of organizers that teachers can use while teaching expository texts and complex concepts. Participants will also learn simple ways to collect classroom data—such as student work, responses, and reflections—to understand how these strategies influence learning. The workshop will briefly discuss approaches to analyzing this data to inform teaching practices. By the end of the session, participants will gain practical ideas for integrating graphic organizers into their teaching and for using classroom evidence to reflect on and improve instructional practices.
Outcomes: After attending this program, participants shall be able to • Understand the role of graphic organizers in improving reading comprehension & conceptual understanding. • Use different types of graphic organizers to support learning from expository texts • Collect classroom-based data such as student responses, work samples, and reflections. • Analyze classroom data to evaluate the effect of graphic organizers supporting student learning.
