Can’t I stop and rest for a little while?” उसने पहाड़ को पुकारा और अपने मन की ये बात उसके सामने रखी। She needed advice, so she called out to the mountain and shared her thoughts with him. पहाड़ खिलखिला उठा और बोला, The mountain just laughed and said: "अरे पगली, मुझे देख, मैं भी तो एक ही जगह पर सदियों से खड़ा हूँ।" “Hey, look at me, I have been standing in the same place for ages!” इस पर नदी बोली "तुम तो स्थिर हो, एक ही जगह पर खड़े-खड़े क्या थकान? "यह तुम सोचती हो, मैं तो यहाँ खड़े-खड़े थक गया हूँ, रोजाना बस वही पेड़, वही आसमान नज़र आता है, कई बार जी में आता है की काश! अगर मैं भी चल-फिर सकता, भाग सकता, तो तुम्हारी तरह नित नये जंगलों, पेड़ों, गाँवों की सेर करता, प्यासे खेतों को पानी पिलाता, मनुष्यों को जीवन देकर उनकी आँख का तारा बनता..." “That is how you see it, but I get tired of standing here,” he replied. “Every day I see the same trees and the same patch of sky. Sometimes I wish: if only I could run around like the river. I would visit new forests and villages. Your life is so comfortable and peaceful, yet you feel this way.” इस पर पहाड़ ने बड़ी नम्रता से कहा, "नहीं बहन, तुम्हारी तो पूजा की जानी चाहिए। तुम दूसरों के लिए बहती हो, सब को इतना कुछ देकर भी जो तुम्हारे पास बचता है, वह सब भी तुम सागर को अर्पित कर देती हो।" “You don’t get it, my sister. You are worshiped by everyone.” the mountain replied lovingly. “You flow for the sake of others. And that’s not all! After giving away so much, you offer whatever remains, to the sea.” यह सुनकर नदी ने पहाड़ के पाँव छुए और दुगुने जोश में भर कर बोली, On hearing this, the river bowed down to the mountain and said with great enthusiasm, "एकदम ठीक कह रहे हो भाई, मेरे जीवन का सच्चा लक्ष्य है दूसरों को जीवन प्रदान करना। "धन्यवाद, बहुत-बहुत धन्यवाद!" यह कह कर, कलकल की आवाज़ के साथ नदी अब चौगुने वेग से बह निकली। नदी के जोश को देखकर स्थिर खड़ा पहाड़ भी मन्द-मन्द मस्कुरा उठा। "You are absolutely right, my brother.
