In July 2016, Delhi witnessed one of its most chilling and tragic murder cases โ the Ved Prakash Kirodiwal Family Murder. What police first thought was an honour killing soon turned out to be a horrifying tale of greed, betrayal and revenge. A happy, middle-class family from Wazirabad, North Delhi โ Ved Prakash Kirodiwal, his wife Sadhna, son Shubham and daughter Naina โ was wiped out in just one day. Four innocent lives lost because of money, deceit and the darkness hidden behind familiar faces.
Ved Prakash was a hardworking businessman and financier preparing for his daughter Nainaโs wedding. But the people he trusted most โ his own employee Ritesh Katiyar, his nephew Sonu, and family friend Abhishek Pal โ were plotting his death. The reason? A โน9 lakh loan, failed business, and the greed for property. On 15 July 2016, one by one, Ved Prakash, his son, wife and daughter were strangled with a clutch wire. Their bodies were hidden in his Santro car and later dumped in the Upper Ganga Canal, Hapur.
When Nainaโs body surfaced the next morning, the police misread the entire case as an honour killing, registering Ved Prakash and his family as accused instead of victims. For two long years, the real killers roamed free while the truth remained buried.
Everything changed when, two years later, Delhi Policeโs Crime Branch got a tip from an informer. Abhishek Pal, drunk at a party, had started bragging โ boasting that he had killed an entire family and gotten away with it. That careless confession led investigators to reopen the cold case, exposing the full conspiracy. Ritesh had already committed suicide, the juvenile Mannu died in an accident, and finally Abhishek Pal and Sonu were arrested.
The Kirodiwal family finally got justice โ even if posthumously. This case shows how greed can destroy lives, how truth always resurfaces, and how karma finds everyone.
