Ford has updated its offering in the competitive mid-size SUV segment. The 2020 Ford Escape is bigger than before, introduces new powertrains and brings a whole host of new technology.

Previously known as the Kuga, the Escape is Ford’s latest answer to the Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4 and, for 2021, comes with a larger footprint, more cabin space and a big uptick in style and tech.

It was supposed to be Ford Australia's first electrified model, in the form of a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but European production of the Ford Escape PHEV has been delayed while the Blue Oval investigates battery charging module overheating issues, delaying its local launch by 12 months.

For now, Australia's 2020 Ford Escape line-up comprises five petrol-powered variants including the mid-range front-wheel drive ST-Line tested here, priced from $37,990 plus on-road costs.
