Fire Destroys Custom House Wharf in Portland 🔥

PORTLAND (WGME) -- A massive fire that broke out on Portland's Custom House Wharf is now under control, according to officials. Crews responded around 5:30 p.m. Friday to the scene, located just off Commercial Street in the Old Port. Casco Bay Ferry Lines was among the first to report the fire, having spotted a burning building from the water.

The building where the fire originated is considered a total loss, and nearby properties sustained damage. One firefighter suffered minor injuries, though no hospitalizations were reported. Firefighters faced challenges on land, including frozen fire hydrants due to frigid temperatures, but utilized boats to combat the flames.
