Emergency services were called to Shababs Balti Restaurant on Ladypool Road just after 11:10 BST on Sunday after a fire broke out in the kitchen.
West Midlands Fire Service said the man had escaped before they arrived and was taken to hospital to treat smoke inhalation and burns.
