Facebook Blocks News in Canada Amid Tensions with Government 🇨🇦

Tensions are high between Canadian lawmakers and tech giants like Meta and Google.  Facebook has officially started to block news access to its platforms in Canada. This is the tech giant’s response to Canada’s passing of the Online News Act requiring the platforms to pay news outlets to use their content. Google is expected to follow suit. The tech giants say they shouldn’t face uncapped financial liability for providing access to Canadian news sites when news outlets are willingly sharing its content to expand their audience.
