Special‑purpose reconnaissance troops from the Rubizh Brigade successfully carried out an operation on the Pokrovsk axis, resulting in 12 Russian soldiers surrendering, the brigade’s press service reported. The Rubizh Brigade is one of the assault units of the “Offensive Guard,” with prior combat experience in Hostomel, Bakhmut, and Rubizhne.

The situation in Pokrovsk city remains the most difficult along the entire front. Ukrainian defense forces are carrying out search-and-strike operations to eliminate Russian occupiers. Ukrainian positions remain in the city center, and ongoing firefights prevent enemy forces from consolidating, according to the East Operational Command. Recon officers with the call signs Montana and Tykhyi have explained that the operation unfolded in two stages. On the first day, the team quietly approached a Russian platoon strongpoint, removed tripwires, and disabled the enemy’s communications equipment.

Caught by surprise, three Russian soldiers surrendered after a brief firefight and negotiations, during which Ukrainian forces guaranteed their safety and medical aid. The following day, the scouts returned to fully clear the position. Nine Russian soldiers remained in the dugout, refusing to surrender and continuing to fire. Using a psychological tactic, the Ukrainian troops threatened them with an approaching tank. “We told them the tank was coming, and if they didn’t surrender, they’d be buried right there,” the brigade recalled. The tactic worked, and all nine remaining soldiers laid down their weapons and were taken prisoner.

Danylo Borysenko, the head of intelligence of the anti-aircraft missile and artillery division of the Rubizh Brigade, stated that because Ukrainian firing and observation positions are are located at great distances from each other, some Russian infantry are managing to slip into Pokrovsk. "Our positions are not continuous and dense, as people are used to seeing in movies about World War II or World War I. Today, there is no such thing as a continuous line of trenches or dugouts. Now, the line of contact is a collection of firing or observation positions, which are often located at a great distance from each other. And this allows the enemy in some cases to slip between these positions and move into our rear to accumulate their manpower there for further actions," commented the serviceman.

According to him, this is how the Russian army is trying to penetrate into Pokrovsk. While most of the Russian soldiers are detected and destroyed, a certain percentage of enemy infantry is successful in such advances. Consequently, they try to gain a foothold, using every building as a firing position or shelter.
