About this video
This is a 4k Remaster of the Spicediver Fanedit for the 1984 Movie Dune.
This version is strictly for non-commercial educational purpose and i reserve no rights to the original Movie or the Spicediver Fanedit. This was done strictly as an educational hobby project.
Trailer: https://youtu.be/DpxD6ZriIUw
Shot Comparison: https://youtu.be/7BocGlOG9sE
These are the individual steps:
- Broke down the 720p version into individual shots (~1600 total) and Upscaled them all individually to 2160p with varying settings
- Matched the Extended Edition 1080p Footage to each of the shots and upscaled those to 2160p, i followed the sequence of the Spicediver cut strictly here. If a scene was only partially available i opted to keep the original 720p upscaled version instead of splicing the scene by frame.
- Cleaned up and post-processed footage that did not upscale correctly
- Tracked and Re-colored some eyes that where not colored Blue in the Extended Edition (There are a few ones still missing and there are some Glitches here and there but it's passable)
- Replaced the Prologue and Credits Music with Hiqh quality Flac Sound
- Some other minor tweaks and adjustments including some color grading on a few scenes that where out of line with other surrounding shots. There are many more that could be regraded but i am leaving it at this for now.
Software used in the process:
- Topaz Video Enhance AI (Pro)
- Davinci Resolve (Free)
- SpectraLayer 8 (Trial)
- FFMpeg
- Python
Overall this process took a bit over 2 Months to complete.
