About this video
TUNIS, TUNISIA – Welcome to Tunis, a city bursting with color, chaos, and some of the best street food scenes in Africa! In this episode, we dive deep into the street food culture of Tunisia’s capital. No fancy restaurants, just real food, real people, and the energy of the streets.
🔥 In this video, we ate:
✅ Kafteji – Behind the marche central, there is what many people claim to be the best keftaji in Tunisia. The restaurant name is ‘kafteji duiri’ wich operates from a Djerbian family since 1930 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/onHSUX7NFN5WCthL7)
✅ Tunisian Fricassé – A pillowy, fried daugnaut, filled with tuna, olives, harissa, boiled egg and sometimes potato. Less than a dollar, and with a taste that you will remember for a long time. We ate a bunch of them on our trip in tunisia and this place was legit one of the best.

✅ Malfouf – Right oposite the Fricasse shop, the kind owner of this shop saw us filming and invited us to treat us to a Malfouf, the Tunisian version of shawarma. With various meats and sauces this was a true streetfood, that gave us hungover food vibes. Nice and fatty, and super satisfying due to it’s HUGE size. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/RZiDUoiFrRZ5z99A9)
✅ Chicken Makarouna – Pasta is huge in Tunisia. After the Italians they eat the most pasta in the world, but not like you’ve seen it before. Inside the central market of Tunis you will find a small restaurant serving a few dishes. Here we had this amasing, spicy spaghetti with chicken, and some fruit! ✅ Brik – Tunisias most famous dish!
A deep-fried pastry stuffed with egg, tuna, capers, cheese folded and deep-fried till crispy. Traditionally made with a runny egg yolk but you can ask the chef to make it fully cooked by asking him to ‘kill’ the yolk. This restaurant is in the border of Yasmina Cite and Cite Mohamed Ali, there is no google page for this shop the area is considered ‘dangerous’ at night so please aproach with caution! ✅Cow leg Lablabi – The humble hero of Tunisian working-class hero street food. A hot chickpea soup, covers stale bread and is toped with cumin, garlic, harissa, olive oil, and vinegar. Locals customize it with tuna, olives, eggs, or pickled vegetables. Here they make it with cow leg, but this was on a night we were super hungry and tired and we didn’t save the location.
