DoS 2021: Analyzing Implementations of Hardware Root of Trust with Chujiao Ma (Blue Team Track)

Abstract: Hardware-based Root of Trust (HRT) is considered the gold standard for bootstrapping security in trusted computing. However, not all HRTs are created equal and they may differ depending on the security properties, threats, and capabilities. How do you analyze them and make sure to choose the best security solutions available? This presentation demonstrates how to perform a comprehensive analysis of different HRTs available in commercially off-the-shelf secure computing hardware models in terms of their security guarantees, performance overhead, and implementation costs. The decision-making process can also apply when choosing other security solutions for your assets as well.
