Well, I mean...not if you don't want to. Reading is supposed to be FUN. 🤓 I firmly believe people should read what they want to.
The only time I will demand someone read the "classics" is if they want to make arguments about a genre's traditions or accuse an author of "ripping off" another author when both authors in question were actually just using established genre tropes. *coughcough*SarahJMaasFandom*coughcough*
