Django: The Stranger Shoots in This Spaghetti Western 🎬

Fans of spaghetti westerns like Sergio Corbucci's The Great Silence and Jodorowsky's El Topo cannot miss this boundary-pushing acid western movie.

Oaks and his gang, after agreeing with a group of Mexicans led by a half-breed named The Stranger to steal some gold, kill them and run off with the loot. When they arrive in a nearby village with the stolen gold, they attract the attention of the town's criminals, ruled by the corrupt saloon owner and a treacherous pastor. No one yet knows that The Stranger, believed dead, was miraculously nursed back to health by two Native American shamans and is now eager to avenge the betrayal he has suffered...

Screenwriter/director Giulio Questi infused the Western framework with heavy allegorical and surrealist content, creating an explicit critique of greed, capitalism and religious hypocrisy. The film's excessive, almost Gothic violence coupled with its psychedelic editing style further cemented its reputation as one of the most bizarre and uncompromising films of its era, marking it as a highly eccentric product of the post-Leone/Corbucci Spaghetti Western wave.
