One Day in La Gomera: Hidden Gem 🇮🇨

I only had one day to explore La Gomera — the second smallest of Spain’s Canary Islands — so I made the most of every moment.

Flying in from Tenerife gave me a head start over the usual ferry route, and I picked up a compact Opel SUV at the island’s laid-back airport. My first destination? Valle Gran Rey — a scenic seaside town where I caught an epic sunset and settled into a last-minute apartment with a perfect location.

From there, it was a whirlwind loop through mountain viewpoints, hidden reservoirs, and prehistoric forests. La Gomera is rugged and green, with landscapes that shift from dry cliffs to misty trails in a matter of minutes. I wandered quiet laurel woods in Garajonay National Park, took in the views from the Mirador de Abrante, and explored the island’s cultural heart in San Sebastián.

Despite the short time, I covered a lot — from peaceful lakes and glass-floored lookouts to the cobbled streets of Agulo and a quiet evening on a black-sand beach in Playa Santiago. It’s a place that deserves a slower visit, but even in a day, it left a big impression.
