Who is Father of the Computer Security?

August Kerckhoffs is considered the father of computer security. He was a German professor at HEC, Paris. In 1883, he laid out the principles of modern cryptography. Kerckhoffs's principle states that the security of a cryptosystem should not depend on the secrecy of the algorithm. The only thing that should keep secret is the key, which is used to encrypt and decrypt messages. Examples are the encryption algorithms used by HTTPS and TLS are all public knowledge. However, the keys that are used to encrypt and decrypt traffic are kept secret. So it is very difficult for attackers to break these encryption algorithms, even if they know how they work.
