Does ING use Automata Theory in any of its applications? The answer is yes, and the implementations vary from Business Banking, where it is used to support the entire global onboarding journey, to Financial Markets, where it is used for bond trading and Markov chains, but also for modelling the entire financial domain.

Automata Theory, help me again, isn’t it a course I took years ago? Yes, and to freshen you up, cellular automata allow you to model chaotic systems and understand the conditions and forces that drive them to certain states; for example, state machines, regular expressions, Turing- and Moore machines. They give a greater explanation for the current state beyond patterns and trends (unlike Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning where a pattern is required to be present).
