Dido Unprepared for 'Stan' Success

Eminem discovered Dido’s 1999 track Thank You after producer Mark The 45 King played it for him, instantly drawn to its intro for a song concept he was working on about an obsessed fan. He recorded “Stan” using the sample and then sent it to Dido’s team, who cleared it after she heard and loved the result. Released in 2000 on The Marshall Mathers LP, “Stan” became a cultural phenomenon, catapulting Dido’s song to worldwide fame.
