Cillian Murphy almost didn’t get the role of Thomas Shelby. In the end, it came down to Cillian and Jason Statham due to his demanding presence. Initially, Jason Statham was the favorite to get the role, but Cillian texted the showrunner to remind him that he was actually an actor. That sold the part for him. Cillian has admitted that his kids were terrified of him after he shaved his head for the part, and he created the Shelby walk. His wife hated the fact that he would sometimes walk like that at home, and she told him to just stop walking.
