Thanks to Esther’s hormonal disorder that causes her dwarfism, she is a 33 year old adult who looks like a 9 year old for the rest of her life. Since Isabelle Fuhrman doesn’t actually have this disorder, the makeup team and filmmakers had to get really creative in their process to make her look like 9 again. World class makeup, clever camera angles, and CGI were used to accomplish this. Isabelle is actually 25 years old.
