About this video
Jenny Muilenburg, University of Washington
Donna Bourne-Tyson, Dalhousie University
Abigail Goben, University of Illinois Chicago
Jim Wilgenbusch, University of Minnesota
Institutional research data strategies and policies are on the rise worldwide as research data grows in scientific importance and centers itself as a critical component of enhancing research integrity. Institutions have developed and invested in technical and human infrastructure to meet these growing demands. Official institutional strategies for research data focus on education, capacity-building, and service models, while policies heavily revolve around research data governance, ownership, and stewardship. Both are important components of supporting faculty in their research data needs, but with different outcomes in mind. This panel will inform attendees of the experiences and lessons learned in United States and Canadian universities in adopting and implementing institution-wide research data policies and strategies, the use cases for the creation of either or both, and present a framework for research data services, based on a recent Association of Research Libraries/Canadian Association of Research Libraries (ARL-CARL) report.
