Dan Snow Analyzes Prime Minister Portrayals in Iconic Historical Films 🎬

Popular Historian and Television Presenter Dan Snow MBE reviews films depicting UK Prime Ministers in historical films.

Dan reviews Gary Oldman's performance as Winston Churchill in the highly acclaimed 'Darkest Hour' (2017). He then rates Meryl Streep's depcition of Margaret Thatcher in 'The Iron lady' (2011).

He also reviews 'The Queen' (2006), starring Helen Mirren and Michael Sheen as Prime Minister Tony Blair, who offers Queen Elizabeth II advice after the death of Princess Diana in 1997. He then moves on to rate Jeremy Irons as Neville Chamberlain in the film 'Munich: The Edge of War' (2021), depicting the tense negotiations between Hitler, Mussolini and Chamberlain in 1938.

Next, Dan reviews 'The Madness of King George' (1995) in which Julian Wadham plays Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger as he deals with the growing problem of King George III's mental health.

Finally, Dan reviews 'Mrs Brown' (1997) which sees Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli vie to draw Queen Victoria, played by Dame Judi Dench, out of retirement from public life as she continued to mourn her late husband, Prince Albert.
