Damon Salvatore Tribute: The Better Man 💙

"I'm not a hero, Elena. I don't do good. It's not in me."

This is the first video in a series of my character tributes for TVD. I plan on making one for every character. I'm still not sure who will the next one be about, but I wanted to start with my favorite tv character of all time - Damon. The only reasons I kept watching after Elena left, was for him. I acknowledge he's not perfect. He's done some horrible things and he knows it too. He killed people, hurt his loved ones. But he's also fiercely loyal, and ready to sacrifice himself for Elena, his family and friends (even though it takes him some time to actually care for someone). 'Damon logic' might be messed up, but I've always been able to understand him and sympathize with his story.
Damon was never a one dimensional character. He had to grow up with an abusive father, always trying to 'earn' his approval. His mother was never strong enough to leave Giuseppe, but left her sons to live with that monster while she found a new family - and then came back only to take Elena away from Damon. Every girl he's ever truly loved rejected him for Stefan, the brother who forced him to turn into a vampire. He's been pushed around throughout his entire life as a human. Hurt by his parents; after waiting for over a hundred years - hurt by Katherine, and even by Elena in season 3. He made some horrible choices, there's no denying that. He always had his reasons though, and I'm so glad that at the end - he got his happy ending! The human life he deserves, with the girl that loves him back.
