Cyclone Ditwah Causes 56 Deaths in Sri Lanka 🌧️

Sri Lanka is battling its worst rains in years. At least 56 people have died as of Friday morning, while Cyclone Ditwah moves toward Tamil Nadu. Torrential downpours have triggered floods across 20 of 25 districts, affecting 43,000 people. East coast areas like Batticaloa and Trincomalee, and hill country towns including Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, are among the worst hit. Roads are submerged, schools shut, and government offices closed. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced LKR 1 million compensation for victims’ families. Tourism and aviation services remain disrupted as authorities issue island-wide red alerts.
