Custom Launcher Devs are Frustrated with Google - Requests Help from Community [Android News Byte]

Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to another edition of the Android News Byte.

Today, I wanted to highlight a report that's circling the community which involves 3rd-party launchers.

If you're not familiar, a launcher on Android is basically the home screen and app drawer on your device.
All of these devices ship with a stock launcher which is developed by the OEM who makes your phone.

But there are custom launchers by 3rd-party developers which usually offer many more features than what you get from your stock launcher.

The issue seems to stem from buggy animations for those who are using the gesture navigation feature.
You may have seen it before. Where you minimize an application, or try to bring up the recents page aka the app switcher

and noticed the animation on your 3rd-party launcher isn't the same as what you see with your default one.
This issue began back in 2019 with the launch of Android 10 and while Google has done work to improve the buggy animations, they still have not fully fixed the problem.

Since there still has not been a fix put into place with the launch of Android 15, developers of these popular custom launchers are asking the community for some additional help.

they have created a public survey to get some stats as to how many people are experiencing issues
And to find out what exact issues they have noticed when trying to use a 3rd-party launcher.

They hope that by bringing these reports to the Google and Android team at an event in October, that they can finally get some progress made on these bugs.

The more people within the community who can respond to this survey, the better the odds with improve that we'll actually get some results about it.
