In this video, we show the basics of cryptology (cryptology = cryptography and cryptanalysis).
This video here discusses a well-researched structure for block ciphers, the Feistel network. First, Feistel networks are explained. Feistel ciphers are ciphers, which separate during each round the current block into a left and a right part. One part is encrypted or decrypted and the other part is forwarded to the next round. This makes it possible to use the same implementation for encryption and for decryption. Only the round keys have to be used in reversed order for decryption. The second part of this video discusses the SDES cipher, which is a toy cipher created for the easier understanding of the real DES cipher. Finally, the video shows the SDES implementation in CrypTool 2.
