Crete | Koudoumas Beach. One of the most beautiful beaches on the whole island of Crete is definitely Koudoumas beach.
The name derives from the monastery of Koudouma, which is located 74 Km from Heraklion, south of the highest peak of the Asterousia mountains, Kofinas peak. It is a secluded beach and it takes some time to get there.
You can get there by car, or on a motorbike. Drive on an accessible dirt road for about 20 Km, starting from Sternes village and then descend to the beach along a breathtaking route through the mountains.
The mountain is full of pines and cypress trees, and if you're lucky you might see an eagle flying around. After you arrive at the beach you'll find that its definitely worth it. The wild scenery is just overwhelming. It is a small beach with fine pebbles and clear blue waters.
It is recommended for snorkelling, for long swims and relaxation. Have in mind that there are no touristic amenities, so take your refreshments and snacks with you.
There are some rooms offered free by the monastery for the visitors but during the summer months they are full most of the time.
Nudism and camping are prohibited on that beach.
