About this video
In Hyderabad, Stonecraft group is using the Miyawaki method in their project Urbanrise. The Miyawaki method was pioneered by Japanese botanist Dr. Akira Miyawaki, to create dense, fast-growing native forests. This approach involves planting a variety of indigenous trees very close together, mimicking natural forest ecosystems, which results in forests growing 10 times faster and becoming 30 times denser than conventional plantations. These urban Miyawaki forests typically mature in just 2-3 years and then become self-sustaining with minimal maintenance. This significantly enhances biodiversity by supporting various bird species, insects, and small mammals. The dense nature of Miyawaki forests creates microclimates that can lower temperatures locally and provides natural havens within concrete urban environments. The Miyawaki Forest in Woods Shamshabad is one of the largest in the world.
