About this video
#cryptology, #cryptography, #cryptanalysis
In this video, we discuss the Vigenère cipher and how to cryptanalyze it. The Vigenère cipher was actually invented by Bellaso. Vigenère invented the so-called Autokey cipher.
Recently, we updated the Vigenère Analyzer component in CrypTool 2 to allow plaintext and ciphertext alphabets of reduced lengths. This allows to analyze original historic Vigenère-encrypted ciphertexts since often reduced alphabets were used.
We discuss the theory behind the Vigenère cipher and the Autokey Cipher. Also, we show practically how to create a Vigenère Cipher in CrypTool 2 (also with reduced alphabets) and how to break these using the Vigenère Analyzer.
