Conan Gray was our DSCVR Artist to Watch in 2020, and it’s no secret the alt-pop prince has continued to be a Vevo fave. What’s not to love? He’s as comfortable breaking hearts with ballads such as “Heather” and “Astronomy” as he is seated with Rodrigo and Sivan at the cool kids table thanks to power pop anthems like “People Watching” and “Maniac.” Funny enough, “Memories” has a foot in each territory. What begins as a plaintive piano tune builds and builds until suddenly Gray is swirling his ankle-length skirt around every corner of our studio. “Disaster,” on the other hand, lives squarely in power pop land. Both are highlights from his stellar ‘Superache’ album, which arrived in June. As is his nature, Conan brought tons of energy to these performances, as if at any moment he could jump out of the screen and into your lap.
