China’s artistic swimming team delivered a groundbreaking performance in the Free Routine at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, earning their first-ever Olympic gold medal in the team event. Their routine, titled "Light of Life," combined high-difficulty hybrids, flawless synchronization, and dramatic lifts set to a powerful orchestral soundtrack.
Blending technical excellence with artistic storytelling, the routine featured elements inspired by traditional Chinese culture. The team, coached by Zhang Xiaohuan, scored a total of 996.1389 points, surpassing the United States (914.3421) and Spain (900.7319). This gold ends China’s streak of silver medals from previous Games and confirms their place as the new global leader in artistic swimming.
