The loser of Chechnya's presidential election, rebel commander Shamil Basayev, on Wednesday (29/1) said he doubted he would be joining the new Chechen government.
A few blocks away from Basayev's headquarters, Aslan Maskhadov's supporters were jubilant as they dismantled their campaign headquarters.
In Moscow, Russian Duma speaker Ivan Rybkin said Russia recognised the results of the election.
