About this video
MATH+ proudly introduces its 2025 Hanna Neumann Fellows, Monika and Alice, in celebration of “International Women in Mathematics Day!“
On 12 May, MATH+ marks “International Women in Mathematics Day” by featuring its Hanna Neumann Fellows—postdoctoral researchers Monika from India and Alice Marveggio from Italy, who is currently based at the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics in Bonn.
Both received a MATH+ Hanna Neumann Fellowship to collaborate with leading researchers in the MATH+ community and to deepen their expertise. During their fellowship, they spent time at research groups at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin: Monika is working with Marc Kegel, and Alice with Barbara Zwicknagl.
🔬 Monika explores the geometry of knots and 3D spaces.
🧩 Alice dives deep into partial differential equations and the mathematics of evolving shapes.
In the interview, they reflect on their journeys in mathematics, share experiences as women in the field, and discuss challenges shaped by cultural contexts. They emphasize the importance of resilience, mentorship, and supportive networks, while providing encouraging guidance to young women and advocating for inclusive, collaborative, and international research environments.
