About this video
Hey, it’s Jack. I’ve lived in KL for over 3 years, and a lot of people ask me, can foreigners actually buy property here?
Yes, but there are rules.
In Kuala Lumpur, foreigners can buy condos and serviced apartments, but the minimum price is usually RM1 million.
Some states are cheaper — Rm600k in Melaka for example, but in KL, RM1 million is the standard.
You can’t usually buy landed homes unless it’s a special development, and leasehold vs freehold is something you’ll definitely want to understand.
I personally looked into areas like KLCC, Mont Kiara and Desa ParkCity - great areas for expats.
Now, if you’re planning to stay long-term or want a lifestyle upgrade, buying could make sense, especially to qualify for MM2H.
But just be aware:
You’ll deal with currency risk
There’s Real Property Gains Tax (RPGT) if you sell too quickly
And legal processes here are a bit different
Best thing to do? Start browsing on iProperty, that’s what I use. It gives you a good feel for prices, areas, and which properties meet the foreigner threshold.
So yeah, you can buy here, but it’s not a casual decision. Take your time, do your research, and use sites like iProperty to stay safe and informed.
