Brand New 2001 Pro V1 vs 2026… The Difference Is Shocking

Is the original Titleist Pro V1 really better than the modern version?

We got our hands on a brand new sleeve of Pro V1s from 2001 and put them head-to-head against the 2026 Pro V1 to see just how much golf ball technology has changed over the past 25 years.
First, we compare the visual differences between the balls and cut them open to look at the internal construction. Then we take both balls to the course and the launch monitor to test them with a wedge, 7 iron, and driver.

The results were surprising. The older Pro V1 produced much higher spin, which made it more erratic and noticeably shorter compared to the modern ball.
