The first time Count Dracula bites Lucy Westenra in Bram Stoker’s Dracula marks the beginning of her tragic transformation. This event occurs after Lucy, who is prone to sleepwalking, unknowingly leaves her bedroom and wanders into the night. The scene is atmospheric and filled with a foreboding sense of danger.

In the novel, Lucy’s first encounter with Dracula happens in Whitby, near the churchyard where his ship, the Demeter, has recently arrived. Drawn by Dracula’s supernatural influence, Lucy walks outside and ends up in the graveyard on a bench overlooking the sea. Mina, her close friend, finds Lucy there in a strange state—unconscious and pale, with her throat exposed. Though Mina doesn’t immediately understand the cause, the reader is given subtle hints: Lucy’s nightgown is disturbed, and Mina notices two small, red marks on her neck the following day. These marks are the telltale signs of Dracula’s first bite.

After this initial attack, Lucy begins to exhibit symptoms of Dracula’s influence: increasing weakness, restlessness, and an almost ethereal beauty that grows more pronounced as her life force is drained. Despite Mina’s care and the protective measures taken by others, this first bite sets Lucy on the path to becoming one of Dracula’s victims, leaving her vulnerable to his subsequent visits.
This moment is significant as it introduces Lucy’s vulnerability and establishes Dracula's menacing presence, highlighting his ability to corrupt and dominate even the purest characters in the story.

Bram Stoker's Dracula is a 1992 American Gothic horror film directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, based on the 1897 novel Dracula by Bram Stoker.
It stars Gary Oldman as Count Dracula, Winona Ryder as Mina Harker, Anthony Hopkins as Professor Abraham Van Helsing, Sadie Frost as Lucy Westenra and Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker.

This movie based on Bram Stoker's classic novel, "Bram Stoker's Dracula" tells the story of the Count's pursuit of Mina, the reincarnated embodiment of his lost love, Elisabeta whom he lost to suicide while he was off defending the cross in a great battle. Upon the discovery of her death, Dracula rejects the church and vows everlasting life and vengeance. The movie takes place in the nineteenth century beginning in London, where the count lures Jonathan Harker - the present-day fiancé of his deceased love --to his castle in Transylvania. Through the duration of the film, individuals fall victim to the undead Count and his lascivious minions as wolves, rivers of blood, and overall turmoil set up the ultimate battle between good and evil.
