About this video
Bollywood Movies Vs South Indian Movies
In my latest video, I hosted a fresh debate between South Indian cinema and North Indian cinema (Bollywood) — both known for producing some of India’s most popular films.
I discussed the highest-grossing Indian films from 2020 to 2025, breaking down how the dominance has shifted over the years.
Here’s the summary I presented:
2020: The highest-grossing film was Tanhaji starring Ajay Devgn, earning around ₹350 crore.
2021: Due to the pandemic, theatres were closed, but Pushpa: The Rise from the South Indian industry went viral and earned around ₹350 crore.
2022: Theatres reopened, and it was a massive year for the South. RRR (by S.S. Rajamouli) and KGF Chapter 2 (Kannada) both broke records, each crossing ₹1,200 crore.
2023: It turned out to be a big comeback for Bollywood. Three back-to-back blockbusters led the box office — Pathaan and Jawan (both starring Shah Rukh Khan) and Animal (starring Ranbir Kapoor).
2024: Once again, South India dominated with Pushpa: The Rule (Telugu) grossing around ₹1,800 crore worldwide.
2025: The highest-grossing film so far is Kantara: Chapter One, continuing the South’s winning streak.
