πWHAT HAPPENED:
After the Commanders' 28-7 loss to the Chiefs on Monday Night Football, a fan tweeted that Bobby Wagner needs to retire and highlighted four plays showing his struggles. Bobby Wagner SLID INTO THE FAN'S DMs defending himself, saying two of the four plays weren't his fault.
β WHY THIS IS WRONG:
-It's Not the Time or Place
-Leaders Fall on the Sword:
-His Play HAS Fallen Off:
π BOBBY WAGNER'S DECLINE:
-Gets burned in pass coverage regularly
-No chance staying with athletic tight ends or running backs
-Looks like molasses compared to Jordan Magee
-Teams bounce runs outside against him for easy yards
-Still terrific at tackling in the middle of the field
The Reality:
It was SHOCKING how much faster the Commanders defense looked with Owens and Magee on the field instead of Wagner playing every snap. Bobby played all 69 defensive snaps - that needs to change.
π WHAT A LEADER SHOULD DO:
-Take accountability publicly
-Acknowledge the team's struggles
-Support your younger teammates
-Work harder in practice
-Let your play do the talking
π― THE BIGGER PICTURE:
Bobby Wagner is a Hall of Fame linebacker with an incredible career. But right now, he's struggling
This is not a good look for a veteran leader on a struggling team.
Bottom Line: Fall on the sword, Bobby. That's what leaders do. Don't DM fans to defend individual plays when the team just got embarrassed on MNF. Your coverage speaks for itself - and it's not saying good things.
