Toyota Hilux 2026: Major Price Jumps & Review 🚗

The Toyota Hilux has finally come in for a new generation 10 years after the last generation’s launch, but it isn’t exactly a massive change. Based on the same platform and using a carryover 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine, the new ninth-generation Hilux is more of a deep facelift than an all-new model.

Under the new front and rear bumpers — the cabin cell is carryover — the Hilux gets liquid-filled engine mounts, very different cabin tech and looks plus revisions to the suspension.

With pricing announced for Australia, road test editor John Law takes a first look at the new Hilux, asks if it’s new enough to challenge the Ford Ranger, Kia Tasman, Isuzu D-Max and BYD Shark 6 plus whether it offers true value.
