Belfast Giants in history books with sixth EIHL title at the SSE

Moments in history don’t come sweeter than the one that occurred last Saturday at the SSE Arena when the Belfast Giants were crowned 2022-23 Viaplay Elite League champions. <br />Not only did the Giants retain their EIHL comfortably after hammering nearest rivals the Guildford Flames 6-1, but they are now the team with most EIHL championship titles with six.<br />Having now leapfrogged the Sheffield Steelers’ five titles, it was also the Giants’ third consecutive crown at the top of British hockey.<br />The News Letter's Darryl Armitage caught up with the celebrations on the ice at the SSE, he spoke with head coach Adam Keefe, players Sam Ruopp, Jeff Baum, Mark Cooper and Steve Owre.<br />“To have won the title in that fashion home ice feels amazing,” said Keefe. “To have been able to do it against Guildford who have been fantastic throughout the season, it just makes it so much extra special.”
