Balti People’s Religious History Before Islam 🕉️

Before Islam, the Balti people followed the Bön religion and later Tibetan Buddhism, a faith that flourished in the region from the 3rd to 11th centuries CE. Early settlements in Baltistan were influenced by the Tibetan Empire, followed by local rule under the Maqpon Dynasty. Evidence of this pre-Islamic past includes the famous Kargah Buddha carving, dating to between the 4th and 7th centuries CE.
