In today’s video Ian Allison takes an in-depth look at Peter Gabriel’s 1986 record, So. Released on 19th May 1986, the album captured some of Tony Levin’s most memorable bass lines including his multi-part line on Don’t Give Up, and his slick, fretless fills on the lead single, Sledgehammer.
We’ve also put together a free workbook for you to download, which contains tab and notation for every bass line that Ian features in the video. From Red Rain and Mercy Street to Sledgehammer and Big Time.
In this lesson you’ll learn:
- How to recreate Tony Levin’s monster bass tone.
- Why Tony shoved one of his daughter’s diapers under his bass strings.
- His system of hitting the strings with drum sticks (wait for it!)
- And much more!
As always, see you in the shed…
Scott :)
