Bangladesh Court Denies Bail Hearing for Hindu Monk ✨

A Bangladesh court on Wednesday rejected a plea to advance the hearing of jailed Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das’ bail petition in a sedition case, ruling that it would be heard as previously fixed on 2nd of January. Das, a former ISKCON leader, was arrested at the Dhaka Airport in November on charges of disrespecting the country’s flag. His arrest sparked protests, with his followers demonstrating in Dhaka and several other places, while the protest turned violent in Chattogram, where a lawyer was also killed. The advocate’s death sparked a counter-campaign, demanding a ban on ISKCON. Meanwhile, India has lodged strong protests against the arrest of the priest and atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh. Members of a Hindu group in Chandigarh city took out a rally on Thursday in which they burnt the effigy of Bangladesh's interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, blaming him for the surge in violence against Hindus in his country.
