Explore Bangkok & Wat Arun with http://teakdoor.com The Thailand Forum.<br />Wat Arun or the Temple of Dawn is the Khmer style chedi on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya River, opposite Wat Pho.<br />The decorations on Wat Arun are made from old crockery that was used as ballast on Chinese merchant ships.<br />The history of Wat Arun started when King Tak Sin made Thomburi his capital and decided to build his palace on the West bank of Chao Phraya River, Wat Makok was made the palace temple and renamed Wat Jaeng.
