The federal cabinet has approved the banning of the religious and political party Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) under the Anti-Terrorism Act for its involvement in terrorism and violent acts. The meeting was informed that this organization, established since 2016, has incited unrest across the country, and security personnel have been killed in violent protest meetings and rallies. However, for the final decision, the reference will be sent to the Supreme Court where the organization will get full right to defend itself. This decision of the government of Pakistan has been taken after the summary sent by the Punjab government on October 17. Earlier, on October 13, during a major crackdown in Muridke, law enforcement agencies had conducted an operation to end the TLP protest sit-in in which a significant number of people, including many policemen, were injured and several were killed. Around forty government and private vehicles and some shops were also burnt. At that time, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Bibi said that land would be restricted for those who took up arms against the state and extremism would be crushed. The indiscriminate use of loudspeakers would also be stopped. Punjab Minister Uzma Bukhari had said that the stolen and non-stolen properties and 95 bank accounts of the TLP chief have been sealed. The mosques of the TLP, which spread hatred, have been handed over to the Auqaf Department and 223 of their madrasas have been geotagged. No mosque or shrine is being demolished, however, many of their madrasas have been built on government lands, of which they have no records. The TLP leadership kept inciting its workers to attack the police and police vehicles were snatched at gunpoint. Fake propaganda of fake bodies was made in their protest to spread bloodshed. One hundred and eighteen of our policemen were shot, many were disabled for life, lists of those who supported the TLP financially have also been prepared. The Defense Minister had also said recently that here in our country Pakistan, armed groups have been formed in the name of religion, which is no longer acceptable to the state, now the country will run according to law and constitution. On the question of who has been forming these groups? He said, “Everyone knows this.”
Any religious extremist group that kills people and damages property will not be accepted. It should also be noted that before the crackdown on this armed organization in Muridke, there were long efforts at negotiations to end the protest peacefully, but the TLP's main focus was to insist that the government release all its detainees, including many activists detained under terrorism provisions who were involved in burning government properties and attacking, killing and injuring police officers. In addition, they demanded that all the local and foreign currency and gold recovered from the house of the TLP leader be returned to them in the amount of Rs 250 million without investigation.
