Episode 5 opens with the fallout from the last rose ceremony where the final rose came down to Shannon. Despite Davey's last ditch effort to woo her and secure himself a rose, Shannon decided to stick with Connor. This morning she's in a tailspin and after a chat with Osher, seriously considers leaving Paradise to pursue a relationship with Davey.

A contentious group date, splits up the happy couples. Half remain in Paradise while their partners go "couch surfing" on the water, followed by an evening in front of the camp fire. Included in this group are Brooke and Alex Nation who continue to flirt in front of Nathan, leaving him with no choice but to confront Brooke about her feelings. Brooke's confusion results in him backing away from their budding connection, ready to pursue someone new.

Curly blonde haired Zoe, from Series Two of The Bachelor, arrives with a date card and shakes things up. Ivan cannot contain his interest, which is clearly noted by a devastated Brittney. Nathan is also intrigued. But in the end Zoe chooses Connor for the date. He's initially happy to explore a new connection, considering Shannon's confusion about Davey, but over the course of the date Connor realises he still has Shannon on his mind, which breaks Zoe's heart. Once back from the date, Connor and Shannon make up leaving Zoe bewildered. She regrets not having chosen Nathan.

Things are moving extremely slowly between former Bachelor Richie and Cass. He is swiftly put on trial by Alisha and his ex, Alex Nation for taking so long to make a move and kiss her. Meanwhile, Rachael having been dumped by Nathan is now back on the Richie hunt but realises there is a big obstacle in her way, Cass. In order to get some quality time with "her Bachelor," Rachel organises a romantic dinner date to win his affection. Needless to say, Cass is not happy.
