A year on from when India ended their long, painful ICC tournament drought with a famous come-from-behind victory at Barbados to seal the 2024 T20 World Cup, some key players from that unit are revisiting the moment with all the emotion from exactly 12 months ago still raw and coming through.
With the reactions to memories and key moments from that historic match against South Africa coming through thick and fast for a date that holds so much meaning for several of these players, captain Rohit Sharma posted a sentimental and moving video on his Instagram account.
The video is a montage of images of Rohit prone on the floor after the decisive ball was bowled, but also with him lifting the trophy alongside his family, with long-time teammate Virat Kohli, holding Pandya in his arms as they finally got to share a national triumph after years of success with Mumbai Indians but only heartbreak in the national jersey. “This trophy, of course it means a lot for us, but it’s for the entire nation,” says Rohit in a voice-over taken from India’s open bus parade last year.
Team India star all‑rounder Hardik Pandya was back to making headlines but its not related to cricket. The 31-year-old cricketer turned heads at Mumbai Airport on Saturday with his uber-cool airport look that includes a high‑end luxury watch. Sporting a Richard Mille RM 67‑02 'Sébastien Ogier' edition, Pandya showcased a watch valued at approximately Rs 3.37 crore (around $395,000). He paired a colourful, multi‑hued sweater and black cargo pants with standout accessories that includes a chunky silver chain, sleek black sunglasses, and polished black boots.
Actor Esha Gupta was rumoured to be dating cricketer Hardik Pandya a couple of years ago. The actor addressed the rumours during her recent appearance on Siddharth Kannan's YouTube channel. Hardik Pandya was married to actor-model Natasa Stankovic. They announced their divorce through an Instagram post last year.
India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was at his aggressive best during the first Test against England as he scored two back-to-back centuries. His powerful hitting created a lot of troubled for the English bowlers as they looked completely clueless against him. Despite two brilliant centuries from Pant, India ended up on the losing side as England batters comfortably chased down the target of 371 with five wickets in hand. Trailing 0-1 in the five-match series, Shubman Gill and co are gearing up for the second Test in Birmingham.
If Pant manages to hit another ton in the upcoming Test, he will surpass Kohli to register the joint-second highest number of centuries by an Indian in Tests against England. He will be at-par with former India skipper Mohammed Azharuddin, who also hit six centuries against the Three Lions in Tests.
So far, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid are holding the joint record of most centuries by an Indian in Tests against England. Both the batters hit seven tons.
Earlier, Pant's surgeon Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, who treated him after his near-fatal car accident in 2022, called the somersault celebration 'unnecessary'.
Following his century against England in the first Test match, Pant performed a brilliant summersault leaving both fans and experts stunned.
"Rishabh trained as a gymnast. Although he looks large, he is quite agile, and he does have a lot of flexibility. And, that's why he's been doing those somersaults of late," said Pardiwala during an interview with The Telegraph.
